GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM
The Gifted and Talented Program is called E.A.G.L.E. which stands for Educational Activities and Goals for Learning Expansion. Students in grade K-2 receive special enrichment classes by the Gifted and Talented teacher.
Program Objectives Grades K-1 The K-1 Gifted & Talented Program is provided through an in-class heterogeneous academic enrichment. All students will be serviced through their homeroom classes on a rotational basis. This program will be provided by the gifted and talented and the classroom teachers on a rotation basis consisting of twice a marking period. It is designated to enhance the regular curriculum and monitor those children who are beginning to show gifted and talented traits. The program will emphasize the application of knowledge in critical and logical thinking, creativity, problem solving, decision making, scientific process, and community awareness. The development of self-esteem and student empowerment will also be addressed in the program. Grades 2-6 The grades 2-6 program is a combination pull-out and enrichment environment. The pull-out program provides students with homogeneous group opportunities. The main emphasis will be addressing critical and logical thinking, enhancing creativity, and integrating technology in their school work. It is recommended that the program be offered to the students two class periods per cycle throughout the school year. Other Opportunities Other opportunities provided to the Gifted and Talented children may include: a) Fine & Performing Arts b) Creativity Experiments c) Psychomotor Activities d) Logical contest and competitions Nomination For EAGLE Program Students are first nominated in late spring by one of three ways: Ø Teacher Nomination Ø Previously in the Program Ø Received a 120 or higher on their IQ test. Then the students are ranked according to the results of their tests, which include Otis Lennon, NJASK and Terra Nova. Finally the outcomes of teacher and parent evaluations as well as teacher portfolio are included for input on the final selection.
