After more than a month of all-remote instruction for the entire district, we wanted to bring your attention to the following:
Assessment: When teachers assign online assessments, please encourage your student to complete the assessment independently. Of course, if the child needs help logging in to access the test, that is fine! Some assessments are challenging and can be frustrating; please reassure them that we only ask students to try their best.
By receiving accurate information about what each student can do on his/her own, the teachers/district can provide the services, interventions and supports that your child may need. Allowing children to complete all tests independently is the best way for us to monitor progress and assess students’ specific strengths and weaknesses.
Asynchronous Fridays (starting in January): Because our current schedule does not provide the necessary, flexible time for teachers to work with students and families who need additional support, interventions, extra assistance, etc., Fridays will become asynchronous days. Teachers will push out independent work, and there will be no whole class live instruction.
If your student’s teacher needs to meet with him or her on a Friday for any reason (small group, office hours, extra help, etc.), the teacher will reach out to you and communicate that information. If there are any changes to your child’s current enrichment schedule on Fridays, the enrichment teacher will communicate that information to you as well.
Please touch base with your child’s teacher if you have any special circumstances or questions about instruction and assignments for your child.
